With the introduction of ADSL, internet users across Australia were given another option for connecting to the internet. Although recently it has been eclipsed by the faster ADSL2+, many Australians are still using and enjoying standard ADSL connections.

How Does ADSL Work?

An ADSL connection works by using the same copper wires that are in place for your existing telephone line; however it uses a different frequency to telephone calls. This enables both services to be operating at the same time, without affecting one another.

ADSL is as Common as the Telephone

Because ADSL uses phone lines, it is available to most of the Australian population. There is however one important factor to consider.

The exchanges used to send data tend to be located in cities and suburban areas. If you live in a remote location, the signal may have to far to get to your house therefore ADSL is unavailable to some households in Australia. It’s best to check with the internet service provider before signing up.

It’s an ADSL Buyers Market

One good thing is that-because ADSL is now very common, there are lots of plans and options available. Some plans provide you with up to 100GB in download per month, which is great if you are an avid downloader of music and videos. The speeds enjoyed on an ADSL connection are also great if you are an online gamer.

Because it uses your phone line, there are also some great bundle deals available that can save you some money, and possibly get you some great bonus features!
